Cycles Preventive Care Guide
Dear Valued Customer,
At Cult, we believe in empowering you to keep your bicycle running smoothly. While we’re always here for more advanced repairs and professional services, we understand that many cyclists enjoy performing basic maintenance at home. That’s why we’ve created an easy guide (with videos) to help you take care of your bike with simple tools and steps you can perform yourself.
Basic Bicycle Service Tasks You Can Do at Home:
1. Checking for Loose Bolts (Video link):
Over time, the bolts on your bike may become loose. Use an Allen wrench or multi-tool to check and tighten bolts on the seat post, handlebars, wheels, and pedals.
2. Inspecting the Bike for Wear (Video link):
Look for any visible signs of wear or damage, such as cracks in the frame or worn-out brake pads. Early detection of problems can prevent bigger issues down the road.
3. Adjusting Brakes and Gears (Videos on how to adjust: Front disc brake, Rear disc brake, Front derailleur, Rear derailleur):
Make sure your brakes are properly aligned and functioning. If your gears skip or don't shift smoothly, adjusting the derailleur can often solve the problem.
4. Checking Tire Pressure (Video link):
Ensure your tyres are properly inflated for optimal performance and comfort. Use a bicycle pump with a pressure gauge to check and adjust tyre pressure based on the recommended PSI, usually found on the side of the tyre.
5. Lubricating the Chain (Video link):
Regular chain lubrication keeps your drivetrain smooth and efficient. Apply a bike-specific lubricant to the chain, then wipe off any excess with a cloth.
Brake pads wear out over time, especially if you ride frequently or in wet conditions. Inspect the brake pads for wear and replace them if the grooves are worn down or the pads are too thin.
7. Checking Wheel Alignment (Video link):
Spin your wheels to ensure they are straight and free of wobbling. If the wheels are out of true, they may need to be adjusted by a professional, but regular checks can prevent bigger issues from developing.
